What is in your library?

What knowledge do you hold in your library?

book1 150x150 What is in your library?Thanksgiving Day was my one year anniversary in business as a Virtual Assistant (my Year of #Tweetsgiving). As part of the reflection of my first year in business I realized that I have accumulated an immense amount of knowledge that has made me a better Virtual Assistant and increased the virtual services I offer to my clients.

It was serendipity that after my one year anniversary blog post I received an email from @karriflatla  with her YouTube Video on “The Library of You.” and shortly after that I read @JosephRanseth’s blog post on “Four Steps to Create a Masterpiece Sculpture.”

With every project and new client I have added to my “knowledge library” while revealing my “sculpture”

  • Chipping – bringing out my authentic self and defining my place as a Virtual Assistant
  • Sculpting – the deliberate process of learning new skills to offer expanded services
  • Sanding – refining my processes and my business plan as I move through each day
  • Polishing – shining up the skills I started with and the new ones I have obtained throughout this last year

The additions to my library has led me to several great partnerships, opportunities and new friends.

A new friendship with @JosephRanseth has proven to be highly beneficial to one of the newest and of the most exciting opportunities I am now working on: a partnership with @TommyTRC offering WordPress Workshops to the Northeastern Wisconsin Area.

Although Thanksgiving has come and gone every day is a day to be grateful to each and every individual who is an important part of my life both in real life and in the virtual world. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

What are you doing every day to build your “library” and finish your “sculpture”?

Thanks for the mention, Michelle! When I posted that video I didn’t even realize it might tie in with Thanksgiving and ‘year end’ type epiphanies, but glad it has inspired you. I have this feeling your “library” is already brimming with juicy books ;)

Cheers,
Karri

Awesome post Michelle! It reminds of the great quote from the late Charlie “Tremendous” Jones:
“You are the same today you’ll be in five years except for two things: the people you meet and the books you read.”

Meeting you has been a gift, as I am certain it has been to countless other people you’ve met – both online and in “real life.” :)

Joseph – OMgosh, I so had not realized that Charlie “Tremendous” Jones had passed away until I read this comment of yours. Then I immediately went out to the web and saw that he passed away over a year ago. How sad as I had also met him in real life at the Jim Rohn seminar I had attended in Dallas a few years back.

Yes, you/Charlie are right – we will be the same in five years, except for those two things!

And likewise, meeting you has been one of the most wonderful things of 2009!

Nice work on your website here. I too am trying to build a web prescence for my small home remodeling business. Its a long story, but I’m not very good at this web coding stuff. I like the site theme you have used here and was wondering what it was named? I bought Brian Gardner’s theme but after about 2 weeks…I just gave up. It was way too complex for my simple mind. I want to supplement my bills in the winter time and thought I could do it by blogging. Its going to be a long road ahead. Anyway, I just stumbled across your article here and am glad to have met you. virtually of course :-) .
