Magic Flash Drive: Cost Effective Computer Repair

About a month ago I had to wipe my hard drive. Even though I had an up-to-date anti-virus program installed somehow a nasty virus got past it and infected my machine. With it’s nasty little processes it even changed my administrative settings so there was no way to erase it from the hard drive.

After four days of making sure all my data was backed up on Carbonite (the best $60 you will ever spend for remote backup services) I found it quite easy to wipe the hard drive. However, something has never been quite “right” on my machine since then.

I’ve had one computer tech ($75/hr) look at it and he’s been unable to figure it out. Another friend referred a different tech to me but he charges $150/hr. I recalled a friend of mine (@StacyKinney) telling me about the Magic Flash Drive. After reading through the FAQ on the device and the information on the website I was excited to order this item.

Here are the details from their website and all of this for only $147.94 (my cost with 5% WI State Sales Tax and shipping):

According to the site it takes two to four weeks to arrive but once it does I will write another blog post to let you know how well it works and if they fix this mysterious issue I have with my computer.

Have you or someone you know used this Magic Flash Drive? If so, what type of reviews would they give it?

You are welcome – have you tried the Magic Flash Drive yet yourself? I have received it in the mail but haven’t yet actually worked with it on my son’s computer yet.

Tim – the drive seems to be a very cost effective way to repair a computer. While I haven’t tried mine yet I hope to do so over the holiday weekend.

I think this is really a great thing because i have often seen people waist lots of money to repair their computers so it is really a great post for those people. Anyways keep it up and keep continue.

I think this is an important lesson on why you should always back up important files on your computer. The people who make virus’s make them to get around programs that are supposed to protect you from them. Even Norton hasn’t protected me in the past.

Jeremy – for backing up I swear by Carbonite – it’s the best $60/yr I spend. There are two things I love about it 1) it backs everything up automatically 2) restoring files from it is also easy

Hi Helen – I agree – I think we all need one. Though ironically I haven’t had a need for mine yet.

Hey Michelle, did you get round to trying your flashdrive? It sounds really good but I’m looking for some positive reviews before I try it. My daughter got a virus in her computer and had the same problems you’ve had so we’re dealing with the aftermath now.

Stacie – I haven’t tried it yet because I haven’t had a need for it yet.
